Job Title: DESIGN ENGINEER / DESIGNER
Location: Shanghai
Reporting to: Design Team Leader. Integrated into Shanghai personnel
system, reporting to R-UK departments for project direction and technical support
where required
Hours: Standard with some requirement for overtime / flexibility
Salary/ grade: Negotiable
OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Typically responsible for: simple design layouts, detail drawings and design
calculations for new or modified powertrains.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
·  Carries out assignments usually on one activity within a broader project relating
to the design of new or improved engines, transmissions, components,
equipment or systems.
·  Tasks assigned might typically include: preparation of simpler design layout
drawings and detail drawings; surveys parts-lists; analytical design calculations;
CAD development; carrying out, or getting carried out, modifications to engine etc
builds; writing of proposals and reports or sections of more complex proposals,
reports or feasibility studies; liaison with other departments on multi-discipline
projects and with clients; presentations to clients on work carried out.
·  Plans own activity within a project; records and monitors costs and contributes to
the first line control of own activity.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:
·  A strong ability to work independently, demonstrative initiative and able to
present technical results;
·  Ability to communicate in a team is essential;
·  Previous experience in 1 or more design tools is desirable (e.g. UG, Pro-E,
CATIA, IDEAS, Auto-CAD, etc)
·  Experience in the automotive engineering industry is desirable.
PERSON FIT:
·  Robust character with strong drive and motivation. Must have a commitment to
succeed.
·  Qualified to degree level with technical background in powertrain design and / or
development
·  Strong information transfer and inter-personal skills
·  Focussed on delivering results and working as an integral part of the programme
team
·  Proficient in English and Mandarin languages (written and spoken) for project and
technical communication
