SunDiesel is a second-generation biofuel
(biomass-to-liquids, BTL). Unlike biofuels
of the ? rst generation, such as bioethanol
or the well-known biodiesel (rapeseed
methyl ester, RME), BTL fuels make use
of the whole biomass: The entire plant is
utilized C all of its ? bers, from the stalk
to the fruits and from the roots to the
uppermost twigs. The fuel yield per acre
of cropland is thus increased many times
over.
SunDiesel can be derived not only from
specially grown energy crops, but also
from waste materials from agriculture and
forestry, which do not compete with food
production.
In the combustion of SunDiesel, hardly
arising from the
any additional CO
2
production process is released into the
atmosphere. Apart from the energy
consumed in producing SunDiesel, its
scorecard is practically neutral, since
CO
2
the CO released in combustion was

previously assimilated by the plant in the
photosynthesis process. Compared with
conventional diesel fuel, the amount of
released during the combustion of
CO
2
SunDiesel is up to 95 percent lower. |
